摘要: Abstract Objective: To see whether two measures of glycated haemoglobin concentration - the A1 (HbA1) value and A1c (HbA1c) assess blood glucose control differently in diabetes. Design: Diabetic patients had glycaemic assessed on basis HbA1 HbA1c values measured by same high performance liquid chromatography instrument electrophoresis. Setting: A diabetic outpatient clinic. Subjects: 208 106 non-diabetic controls. Main outcome measures: Glycated concentrations classified according to European guidelines as representing good, borderline, or poor using standard deviations from a reference mean. Results: Fewer were good (25;12%) more poorly controlled (157;75%) compared with both assays (39 (19%) 130 (63%) respectively when chromatography; 63 (30%) 74 (36%) electrophoresis). The median patient was 8.0 SD mean HbA1c, 5.9 method, 4.1 Conclusions: Large differences exist between classification patients. may suggest is at risk long term complications not. Better standardisation measurements advisable.
