摘要: The chapter is situated in the fields of fiber materials sciences and technologies ( particularly dealing with glass compositions luminescent ion doping, transparent ceramic optical fibers), applications such as lasers amplifiers. We propose to present a review research activities on rare-earth (RE) transition metals (TM) doped silica-based fibers, aiming at understanding theier spectral properties, some their transitions that will allow interesting alternative applications. Silica, opposed alternative, low temperature materials, chosen for practical economical reasons. Selected RE TM ions are studied both probes local environment application potentials. In this chapter, we focus erbium (Er) potential 'tailoring' its gain curve 1.55 µm, thulium (Tm) probe along near infrared around 0.8 1.47 chromium (Cr) sensitivity valency spectroscopy composition saturable absorber lasers. extensive studies influence dopants: (but not limited to) energy transfer mechanisms between same nature (Tm-Tm) or different (Yb-Tm), effect phonon Tm emission efficiency, broadening Er induced by oxide nanoparticles grown situ during fabrication process, etc. Knowledge these effects essential photonics applications, many under progress still needed field. which could benefit from basic also numerically : 0.8-µm thulium-doped laser, so-called S-band (1.47 µm) amplifier telecommunications laser sensitisation Tm-based devices using ytterbium sensitized ions.
