摘要: Summary 1. This short piece introduces papers in a special issue arising from the second Freshwater Biological Association Summit held Windermere, U.K., April 2010 on topic ‘Achieving Ecological Outcomes: aquatic ecological responses to catchment management’. 2. The this highlight number of uncertainties, knowledge gaps and research needs when translating into management practice achieving desired outcomes. 3. The span spectrum fundamental theoretical science community engagement improved tools for more effective policy development. 4. At present, there is gap between aspirations realisable outcomes, but these identify some general issues suggest possible new approaches. 5. Some critical analysis both scientific shortcomings goals (particularly densely populated landscapes) order. At very least, we require transparent dialogue broader about what desirable time frames.
