摘要: Abstract Elasmobranchs are an important bycatch component in Portuguese artisanal fisheries, but there no management or monitoring programs place yet. This study analysed elasmobranch catches a west coast trammel net fishery. Thirty-seven sampling surveys were conducted aboard commercial fishing vessels on seasonal basis between October 2004 and August 2005. A total of 11 species caught (seven Rajiformes, two Torpediniformes Carchariniformes), representing 4% 15% weight. Raja clavata was the most number (7.4 ind 10,000 m −1 net) undulata weight (8512.4 g net). Discards represented 7.8% catch weight, 24.8% specimens caught. Seven commonly discarded. There marked seasonality catches, with lowest richness registered spring (four species) highest autumn (11 species). For abundant depth range preferences assessed.
