摘要: BACKGROUND Cancer incidence has increased among young adults (YAs) and survival rates have not improved compared with other age groups. Patient-reported outcomes may enhance our understanding of this vulnerable population. METHODS In a multisite prospective study, patients completed cancer symptom inventory at the time enrollment (T1) 4 weeks to 5 later (T2). YAs (those aged ≤ 39 years) breast or colorectal were older ≥ 40 regard severity, interference, changes over time, medical care. RESULTS Participants included 1544 (96 whom YAs) 718 (37 YAs). Compared adults, more likely report moderate/severe drowsiness, hair loss, interference relationships T1. pain, fatigue, nausea, distress, shortness breath, rash plus in general activity, mood, work, relationships, life enjoyment adults. appetite, sore mouth improve cancer; vomiting was less cancer. Referrals for supportive care few, especially somewhat be referred nutrition psychiatry services than patients. CONCLUSIONS YAs reported variations that distinct from patients. Distinctions found differ by diagnostic group. These findings burden inform development targeted interventions future research. Cancer 2014;120:2255–2263. © 2014 American Society.
