We show musical meaning emerges as both abstract and locally situated, embodied discursive activity, which speech is connected with metaphorical hand gestures material world. Multimodality involves not only gesture about ideas, but also implies concrete use objects actions, such instrument, (breathing) body player, well reference score. Viewpoint central issue this conceptual process: teacher student constantly put themselves shoes performer, simultaneously abstracting over embodying their own other's body-in-music they perform verbally gesturally address past future playing.
