The immunomodulatory effects of statins in community-acquired pneumonia: A systematic review

摘要: Summary Objective To evaluate the potential immunomodulatory effects of statins in community-acquired pneumonia. Methods We performed a systematic review available literature on experimental and clinical studies. used PubMed/MEDLINE EMBASE search to identify articles. Results identified 34 original studies, 17 published up March 2013. Conclusions Statins attenuated pulmonary inflammation by modulating neutrophil function, reducing cytokine expression release, protecting against disruption integrity. However, additional studies are needed fully elucidate exact mechanisms. Several suggested decreased risk CAP or reduction mortality due for current statin users, but mostly observational design these hampers interpretation their results. Therefore, appropriately designed such as randomised controlled trials, required demonstrate usefulness prevention treatment CAP.
