Alcohol use and misuse: what are the contributions of occupation and work organization conditions?

摘要: This research examines the specific contribution of occupation and work organization conditions to alcohol use misuse. It is based on a social-action model that takes into account agent personality, structures daily life, macro social structures. Data come from representative sample 10,155 workers in Quebec, Canada. Multinomial regression models corrected for design effect have been used predict low-risk high-risk drinking compared non-drinkers. The (skill used, decision authority, physical psychological demands, hours worked, irregular schedule, harassment, unionization, job insecurity, performance pay, prestige) adjusted family situation, network outside workplace, individual characteristics. Compared non-qualified blue-collars, both are associated with qualified semi-qualified white-collars, middle managers; upper managers. For constraints-resources related conditions, only workplace harassment an important determinant drinking, but it modestly moderated by occupation. Family support work, personal characteristics individuals also Non-work factors mediated/suppressed role conditions. Occupation results theoretical conceptualizing misuse as being product stress caused constraints resources brought bear simultaneously Occupational researchers must expand their perspectives avoid erroneous conclusions about workplace.
