摘要: Studies were conducted to determine the effects of dietary selenium (Se) on hindgut microbial activity in rats. Selenium was fed asl-selenomethionine (SeMet) at either 0 or 2 ppm Se presence absence wheat bran (WB, 10%), a known substrate for enteric microflora. Wheat feeding caused greatest fermentation, measured by production short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) along entire intestinal tract and feces; however, its suppressed SeMet proximal large bowel, cecum, colon. significantly enhanced fermentation colon rectum, but not cecum feces. found association with bacterial cell fractions gut contents feces: 40–46% total associated colonic microbes 58% fecal microbes. Increased acetate reduced butyrate driven addition regardless whether WB fed.
