摘要: Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC) is sixth most common type cancer, affecting ~500,000 individuals worldwide annually. Collagen major constituent extracellular matrix component in tumors plays a crucial role tumor development. The aim this study was to determine mRNA expression XXI, XXII, XXIII XXIV α1 collagen (COL21A1, COL22A1, COL23A1 COL24A1, respectively) squamous investigate its correlation with disease progression. This investigated levels COL21A1, COL24A1 70 HNSCC primary samples 44 matched pairs adjacent normal mucosal tissues using quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Expression data were compared clinicopathological variables order between Our results demonstrated that COL22A1 significantly higher those corresponding from same (n=44; P<0.001 P=0.019, respectively). found be associated lymph node metastasis (P=0.018) pathological stage (P=0.024), whereas size (P=0.045). high statistically correlated decrease disease-free survival (DFS) (log-rank test, P<0.001). multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed gene pair odds ratio for recurrence 14.62 (95% confidence interval: 2.77-77.26; P=0.002). Therefore, upregulation may play critical progression provide useful information as prognostic predictor patients.
