摘要: Background Identification of aetiology for fever unknown origin (FUO) is challenging, due to the high rates undiagnosed cases. The current diagnostic approach includes initially first-line procedures such as general examination and various laboratory tests basic imaging techniques followed by second-line more advanced including 18F fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) tissue biopsies. If no diagnosis obtained, invasive measures may be in order liver biopsy exploratory laparotomy. Materials methods This review article based on relative published material found MEDLINE PubMed up August 2014. We looked terms ‘fever origin, FDG PET’ combination with ‘cancer, infection autoimmune disease’. Results Several clinical studies have investigated utility PET during FUO. Recent evidence suggests that has advantage total body depict all common causes FUO infections, noninfectious inflammatory tumours because they exhibit glucose hypermetabolism. Depiction an abnormal lesion could guide clinicians next procedure (another method, culture, or surgery) establish diagnosis. Conclusions Emerging PET, when available, provide critical information early evaluation
