Menstrual hygiene management among adolescent girls in India: a systematic review and meta-analysis

摘要: Objectives To assess the status of menstrual hygiene management (MHM) among adolescent girls in India to determine unmet needs. Design Systematic review and meta-analysis. We searched PubMed, The Global Health Database, Google Scholar references for studies published from 2000 September 2015 on girls’ MHM. Setting India. Participants Adolescent girls. Outcome measures Information menarche awareness, type absorbent used, disposal, hygiene, restrictions school absenteeism was extracted eligible materials; a quality score applied. Meta-analysis used estimate pooled prevalence (PP), meta-regression examine effect setting, region time. Results Data 138 involving 193 subpopulations 97 070 were extracted. In 88 studies, half reported being informed prior (PP 48%, 95% CI 43% 53%, I2 98.6%). Commercial pad use more common urban 67%, 57% 76%, 99.3%, n=38) than rural 32%, 25% 38%, 98.6%, n=56, p Conclusions Strengthening MHM programmes is needed. Education access hygienic absorbents disposal items need be addressed. Trial registration number CRD42015019197.
