摘要: Abstract The first regulation of the “Energy Efficient Act” for electric motors, launched in 2002, established two sets minimum efficiency performance standards (MEPS), ‘standard’ (mandatory) and ‘high efficiency’ (voluntary) motors. An updated regulation, from end 2005 (Edict 553/2005), previous high-efficiency MEPS as mandatory all motors Brazilian market. This paper analyses consequences this new which is foreseen to take effect 2010. These are compatible with those implemented other countries. cost–benefit analysis, considered different scenarios industrial consumers, showed that motor substitution (from standard high efficiency) generally advantageous. A sample nine thousand has been used, measured operation actual conditions, analyze investment three scenarios. analysis also demonstrated benefit substitution, an average MWh cost 20 35 US$, only a few substitutions presenting unfavorable relationship user. We assess Edict 553 avoided construction 350 MW hydroelectric capacity. Nevertheless, since conserved energy energy-saving measure below marginal expansion system, we propose mechanisms share costs among society whole, including demand-side bidding.
