摘要: We present experimental studies of atom-ion collisions using buffer-gas cooled, trapped ytterbium (${\mathrm{Yb}}^{+}$) ions immersed in potassium (K) vapor. The range the collisional temperature is on order several hundred kelvin (thermal regime). have determined various rate coefficients ${\mathrm{Yb}}^{+}$ ion per K-atom number density. find upper bounds charge-exchange ${\ensuremath{\kappa}}_{\mathrm{ce}}$ to be $(12.7\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.6)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}14}\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{3}{\mathrm{s}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ for K-$^{171}\mathrm{Yb}^{+}$ and $(5.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.7)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}14}\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{3}{\mathrm{s}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ K-$^{172}\mathrm{Yb}^{+}$. For both isotopes, spin-destruction coefficient ${\ensuremath{\kappa}}_{\mathrm{sd}}$ has an bound at $(1.46\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.77)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}9}\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{3}{\mathrm{s}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. spin-exchange ${\ensuremath{\kappa}}_{\mathrm{se}}$ measured $(1.64\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.51)\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}9}\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}{\mathrm{cm}}^{3}{\mathrm{s}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. relatively low reported here demonstrates advantage K atoms sympathetically cool high may benefit research work quantum metrology information processing platform ions.
