摘要: Abstract A strain of Gram-negative, urease-positive, motile, Providencia bacteria, with colony size 1.8–2.2 mm was isolated from trypticase soy agar (TSA)-medium, originally diseased Indian major carp, Labeo rohita (rohu) during the survey period August, 2012 to July, 2013 at a commercial fish farm in Nerinjipettai-village, near Mettur Dam, Tamil Nadu, India. The rohu showed ulcerative lesions on abdomen surface and bases pelvic fin reddish coloration. present study investigated species through biochemical reaction PCR amplification 16S rRNA locus. Experimental infection assays reproduced isolate conducted pathogenicity (by immersion, intramuscular oral route) demonstrated healthy fish. Histopathological analyses pathogen exposed gill, liver skin moderate structural variations. Since no detected feedstuffs pond water as source this remains unknown, our revealed that Providencia-infection may be due handling methods poultry feces aside human nearby ponds. Hence, is regarded an opportunistic for rohu. This first report which can cause disease cultured fish, L. rohita.
