摘要: Purpose. To demonstrate histochemically the cellular distribution of particulate glycogen inthe cat retina and to correlate it with glucose sensitivity neuronal electrical activities.Methods. Free-floating, ultrathin sections eyes (without challenges) were stainedby periodic acid-thiocarbohydrazide-silver proteinate procedure examined by elec-tron microscopy.Results. Miiller cells filled uniformly wit fine-grainh throughout all retinal layers.Particle density was higher in Muller peripheral than those centralretina. Astrocytes contained little any, if, particulat e glycogen. Alpha beta ganglion cellshad a heavy content clumped granules. Rod bipolar A17 amacrine ofthe rod pathway stained intensely No seen inphotoreceptor cells, cone majority including All cellsof pathway. However, one type bipolar-driven cell intenselyglycogen positive. Its ultrastructural morphology, stratification pattern, synaptology sug-gest that is wide-field, axon-bearing called A22.Conclusions. Except for ON-OFF A22 cell, appears thatglycogen staining preferentially labels neurons These observations arecompatible reported rod-driven electroretinogram optic nerveresponse retina.
