摘要: Biofilms play a major role in delaying chronic wounds from healing. A wound infiltrated with biofilm, or "critically colonised" wound, may become clinically infected if the number of microbes exceeds critical level. Chronic biofilms represent significant treatment challenge by demonstrating recalcitrance towards antimicrobial agents. However, "window opportunity" exist after debridement when are more susceptible to topical antiseptics. Here, we discuss antiseptics management and focusing on povidone-iodine (PVP-I) comparison two commonly used antiseptics: polyhexanide (PHMB) silver. This article is based literature reviewed during focus group meeting care biofilm management, PubMed search conducted March 2020. Compared PHMB silver, PVP-I has broader spectrum activity, potent antibiofilm efficacy, no acquired bacterial resistance cross-resistance, low cytotoxicity, good tolerability, an ability promote represents viable therapeutic option potential treat biofilm-infiltrated, critically colonised wounds. We propose practical algorithm guide chronic, non-healing due colonisation using PVP-I.
