摘要: Abstract Crib biting is a common equine stereotypic behavior that has links to health problems and poor welfare. There evidence crib biters may be more sensitive environmental stressors, the aim of present study was test hypothesis crib-biting in horses relationship with oxidative stress, antioxidant defense, or inflammatory proteins, as observed humans various affective disorders such depression anxiety. Ten 10 age- sex-matched healthy were used. Vital signs (heart rates, respiratory temperature) blood samples taken 3 conditions; basal condition for (no at least 30 minutes); during directly after periods ("acute biting" = 15 minutes no interruption longer than 2 minutes); non–crib-biting (control). Comparisons made between controls, crib-biters' values. No changes vital signs. Total capacity activity significantly decreased measurements relative this again an episode biting. Similar differences those total also enzymes superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase. Collectively, our data suggest levels defenses against lipid peroxidation are reduced biters, suggesting stress plays role pathophysiology In addition, further on might benefit, particularly search veterinary treatments interventions horses.
