Costs and advantages of object-based image coding with shape-adaptive wavelet transform

摘要: Object-based image coding is drawing a great attention for the many opportunities it offers to high-level applications. In terms of rate-distortion performance, however, its value still uncertain, because gains provided by an accurate segmentation are balanced inefficiency objects arbitrary shape, with losses that depend on both scheme and object geometry. This work aims at measuring costs wavelet-based shape-adaptive encoder similar texture coder adopted in MPEG-4. The analysis curves obtained several experiments provides insight about what performance can be expected various operative conditions shows potential such approach coding.
