Validation and Implementation of the GeneXpert MRSA/SA Blood Culture Assay in a Pediatric Setting

摘要: Blood cultures positive for gram-positive cocci in clusters can pose a dilemma empiric antimicrobial therapy because they could represent coagulase-negative staphylococcus or Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia. The GeneXpert MRSA/SA BC Assay (Cepheid, Sunnyvale, CA) is polymerase chain reaction-based method identifying S and methicillin resistance that has been approved use adults, but data on its samples from pediatric patients limited. We validated the Xpert with anaerobic polymicrobial specimens implemented it routine presumptive identification of our hospital. assay was 100% sensitive specific methicillin-resistant 99.5% methicillin-susceptible aureus. Time to bacteremia determination susceptibility reduced by more than 24 hours. found be rapid, accurate tool detecting blood cultures, including those recovered culture media.
