Pyrrolizidine alkaloids in plants used in the traditional medicine of Madagascar and the Mascarene islands.

摘要: Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) can be hazardous to the health of humans and animals. Although their toxicity has been known for a long time, PA containing plants are still in use many traditional medicines. Traditional healing systems have become increasing interest as people believe that they used without any risk side effects. This also applies medicine Madagascar Mascarene island (Mauritius, Reunion, Rodriguez). Recent literature reports recommended this because its good efficacy pharmacological properties. However, several listed there which already described contain toxic PAs or suspected them.
