摘要: Estimating the age of species or their component lineages based on sequence data is crucial for many studies in avian evolutionary biology. Although calibrations molecular clock birds have been performed almost exclusively using cytochrome b (cyt b), they are commonly extrapolated to other mitochondrial genes. The existence a large, standardized c oxidase subunit I (COI) library generated as result DNA barcoding initiative provides opportunity obtain calibration this gene birds. In study we compare rate COI relative cyt across ten different orders. We obtained divergence estimates both genes from nearly 300 phylogenetically independent pairs through analysis 5000 public sequences. For each pair calculated difference between and b. Our results indicate that evolves average 14% slower than b, but also reveal considerable variation among within orders, precluding use value standard adjustment findings suggest partially explained by clear negative relationship these species. Distances higher those closely related species, values become similar increases. This appears be stronger pattern time-dependency COI, could lower functional constraints small number sites allow it initially accumulate mutations more rapidly COI.
