摘要: Expression microarrays that provide genome-level, transcriptional, high-resolution profiles have been applied successfully to multiple diseases. Although information regarding thousands of genes, many investigators prefer focus on a single gene and validate its role, an approach often supported by grant journal reviewers. Only minority global changes in expression. Here, we describe contrast two general approaches the use microarray data: reductionist “cherry picking” more global, quantitative “systems” approach. We analysis experiments relevant idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) context these approaches. it seems cherry-picking successful identifying new genes IPF, suggest fulfill discovery potential IPF create working model unbiased integrative systems are required.
