Virucidal activity of hypericin against enveloped and non-enveloped DNA and RNA viruses.

摘要: Abstract Hypericin is a polycyclic anthrone first isolated from the plant St. Johnswort and was shown to have dramatic anti-retroviral activity against Friend leukemia virus radiation in mice. displayed marginal (IC50 = 6 μg/ml) Moloney murine (Mo-MuLV) vitro. did not display selective antiviral herpes simplex virus, influenza A, adenovirus, or poliovirus. The 50% cytotoxic concentration approximately 25 μg/ml. When incubated with hypericin before infecting cells, drug virucidal all enveloped viruses tested (herpes simplex, Mo-MuLV) at concentrations of 1.56 μg/ml non-enveloped (adenovirus poliovirus). These data indicate that mechanism viral inactivation for dependent upon presence lipid envelope. In vivo, (50 mg/ml) effective FLV HSV-1 if 1 h 37°C mice, but pre-incubated 4°C administered concurrently virus.
