摘要: Abstract Idealized numerical experiments are conducted to understand the effect of upper-tropospheric potential vorticity (PV) anomalies on an environment conducive severe weather. Anomalies specified as a single isolated vortex, string vortices analogous negatively tilted trough, and pair position error in trough. The placed adjacent tropopause along strong upper-level jet at time just prior major tornado outbreak inverted using nonlinear balance equations. In addition expected destabilization beneath cyclonic PV anomaly, spatial pattern balanced streamfunction height fields is distorted by presence horizontal gradient stream. Streamfunction elongated cross-jet direction, while temperature along-jet direction. amplitude inverted...
