摘要: Background. Role of herbs in the management and control diabetes has emerged fast over years. We assessed efficacy Coccinia grandis (locally known as Ken, Kovakka) leaves a hypoglycemic agent. Methods. Double-blind phase I clinical trial was conducted at general hospital private Matara August 2009. All participants were given common meal for dinner, they maintained 10-hour fasting period. Sixty-one healthy volunteers containing 20 g which mixed with measured amount scraped coconut table salt breakfast, other 61 placebo also contained salt. Glucose tolerance test performed blindly two groups. Mixed factorial design analysis variance student's t-test applied. Results. Overall blood sugar levels experimental group significantly lower than those (F(1,117) 5.56, 𝑃 0 . 5 ). Increase from to one hour 6.77, ) hours 5.28, postprandially statistically significant who group. The mean difference postprandial (mg/dL) after (20.2, 95% confidence interval, 4.81 35.5) (11.46, interval; 1.03 21.9) between Conclusions. lowering effect. However further studies are needed validate our findings.
