The real gain of cross-layer routing in wireless mesh networks

摘要: Efficient routing in wireless mesh networks is a fundamental issue to be addressed order boost real deployments bywireless Internet Service Providers (ISP). In last years, research has shown, mainly by simulation, that cross-layerdesign can significantly improve network performance. Nevertheless, despite the multitude of solutions proposed, fewhave known implementation. this paper, we propose some measurements, performed on Wireless MeshNetwork (WMN), clearly showing importance cross-layer approach performances backbone. The platform composed MeshDVboxes our custom Mesh Router (WMR), built up from off-the-shelf hardware and open source software. As protocol use two versions (with without cross-layermetrics) MeshDV, simple expressly de-signed for WMNs. Our tests show cases where traditional hop-count metric compromises connectivity, able maintain it still good performances.
