摘要: ABSTRACT The rust fungus Puccinia jaceae var. solstitialis is a candidate for biological control of yellow starthistle (YST). Part the risk assessment includes determining if safflower seedlings are susceptible to infection by teliospores P. jaceae. A protocol germination needed verify that used in comparative studies viable. developed from this research has two steps: first, priming on water agar at 4 degrees C dark, and second, incubating them warmer temperatures 1 week presence an exogenous stimulator. Priming longer than weeks resulted significantly greater shorter periods. Sources effective stimulator included seeds YST or safflower. greatest occurred during incubation 18 dark. Teliospore was reduced after with 12- 14-h photoperiod. low percentage (<20%) isolates germinated 44 96 dry storage room temperature; samples each isolate tested did not germinate. Data indicate several viable, will be prepare carthami seedlings.
