Affect and Affect Regulation Strategies Reciprocally Influence Each Other in Daily Life: The Case of Positive Reappraisal, Problem-Focused Coping, Appreciation and Rumination

摘要: Feelings of positive or negative affect are not restricted to temporary states. They can also determine future affective experiences, by influencing the building an individual’s personal resources. The present study was designed understand daily fluctuations in and more fully. To this end, we examined involvement a variety regulation strategies these fluctuations. explored included reappraisal, problem-focused coping, appreciation rumination. We adopted experience sampling method, consisting five assessments over 2-week period. As expected, within few hours experiencing affect, participants engaged greater coping appreciation. In turn, use each three followed intense experiences affect. observed analogous reciprocal influences between rumination same time interval. Changes several were directly influenced concurrent strategies. More specifically, accelerated rise that follows low feelings slowed decline high feelings. Rumination had influence on change clinical implications findings discussed.
