摘要: Background Obese subjects show major abnormalities in the growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like factor (IGF) system. Furthermore, they are prone to develop Type 2 diabetes, but impact of diabetes plus obesity on GH/IGF system remains unknown. Methods We compared overnight fasting serum levels free and total (extractable) IGF-I -II, IGF-binding protein (IGFBP) -1, -2 -3, high affinity GH-binding (GHBP) matched groups lean (n=26) obese without (n=24) with (n=29) diabetes. Two (n=7) healthy 1 diabetic were also studied. Results Non-diabetic had increased IGF-II, IGFBP-3 GHBP, reduced IGFBP-1 (p<0.05), normal IGF-I, when subjects. In diabetics was insignificantly by 9% (p=0.3), non-diabetic However, concentration not significantly elevated that controls (p=0.13). Also diabetics, whereas IGF-II remained a similar extent as simple (p<0.05). contrast, GHBP further IGFBP-2 normal. -II markedly reduced, (p<0.05). Conclusions Simple associated marked changes Many these unaffected concomitant presence (total IGFBP-3). some became accentuated (GHBP IGFBP-2), while others (free IGFBP-1) no longer present.
