摘要: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is an ubiquitously distributed inflammatory bowel disease. Its incidence varies slightly between geographical areas, most likely because of either the different genetic patrimonies involved populations or several environmental factors. In socially evolved Countries UC approximately 6 cases per 100.000 white adult individuals, with a prevalence 40-100/100.000. This notably decreases in lower socio-economic levels. Female gender more affected than male, ratio F/M 1.5/1. The aetiology still remains mainly unknown, even if multifactorial genesis now widely accepted. Unlike Crohn’s disease, continuous disease involving rectum, suddenly expanding proximally to colon, no alternation healthy diseased mucosal area.
