摘要: The damage tolerance approach to structural safety is centered on a philosophy of insuring safe operation in the presence flaws. Accordingly, flaws are assumed be present at all critical locations and it demonstrated that these will not grow size usage environment during next period operation. This process requires bounds sizes may structure must quantified terms amenable analysis, i.e., an equivalent crack length, aNDI. Manufacturing quality control field inspections intended eliminate but capability current inspection systems can only expressed probabilistic small interest. Since no guarantee given greater than aNDI detected eliminated, there failure risk associated with process.
