摘要: A theoretical approach to damage-tolerant structural design has been proposed based on a probabilistic characterization of relative safety. The equations necessary quantify safety are developed, and their use in the generic composite sandwich panel demonstrated. Structural is identified by term level safety, which defined, for single inspection event, as compliment probability that flaw size larger than critical residual strength structure exists will not be detected. derived from this definition incorporate treatment damage sizes capabilities. Utilizing data existing aircraft components along with formulas, charts vs were constructed. An example problem presented demonstrates sensitivity facesheet thickness sizing parameters design. Bayesian statistical techniques also incorporated enable subsequent service reduce uncertainty distributions update value experience acquired.
