摘要: Preterm birth and its complications remain one of the most challenging problems in neonatology. Although preventative strategies to reduce preterm have been a long-standing goal, limited progress has achieved reducing incidence. In part, barriers designing better interventions prevent reflected our incomplete understanding human pregnancy maintenance termination because events differ humans compared with other species. this review, we highlight new insights into progesterone signaling during that may allow enter labor without overt, systemic withdrawal, which indicates lack action despite abundant circulating levels at parturition. Hypotheses regarding how increased brain size context pelvic or metabolic constraints shaped time for are discussed, information can facilitate population genetic studies provided. With increasing access genomic from humans, nonhuman primates, mammals, as well growing numbers well-phenotyped cohorts related outcomes, opportunities discovery prematurity prevention options now available.
