Airborne observations of summertime surface features and their effect on surface albedo during FIRE/SHEBA

摘要: Aircraft observations of the arctic surface were obtained during recent Surface Heat Budget Arctic Ocean (SHEBA) and FIRE Clouds Experiment. A series images created from a downward looking video camera that was mounted on underside research aircraft as it flew in vicinity SHEBA camp, which drifted with pack ice Beaufort eastern Chukchi Seas. These data are processed to determine distribution melt ponds open water five flights July 1998. Melt pond coverage vary between 25–34% 5–9%, respectively. Coincident albedo derived upward broadband shortwave radiometers indicate decreased through until last week, when began rise. Pond fraction observed inversely July.
