摘要: We present the fabrication and performance of a micromechanical optical modulator for fiber-in-the-loop applications. Device is reported showing rise fall times less than 100 ns, greater 10 dB contrast ratio at ambient temperatures from -50/spl deg/C to 90/spl deg/C, evidence reliability exhibited in operation 500 kHz over two months (2 trillion cycles) without noticeable loss performance. Bit error rate measurements show potential 1.5 Mb/s with 10/sup -9/ bit rate. Emphasis placed on our efforts produce device which practical, robust, cheap manufacture package.
