摘要: Six stratigraphic sections along a 34 km transect down Middle Ordovician depth gradient (Trenton Group, New York) were ecostratigraphically correlated to 105 year accuracy by pairwise statistical cross-correlation of curves describing each section's history in terms the distribution fossil marine benthic communities gradient. This is about an order magnitude greater than that ordinary biostratigraphic correlation sequence, and it attained even correlating between very different biofacies. ecostratigraphic methods illustrated here promise comparable improvements analyzing many sequences.
