摘要: Human skin is not able to biosynthesize gamma-linolenic acid (GLA, 18:3omega6) from the precursor linoleic (LA), or arachidonic (AA) dihomo-gamma-linolenic (DHGLA). Dietary supplementation with GLA-rich seed oil of borage skips step hepatic 6-desaturation fatty acids (FA) and, therefore, compensates lack these essential FA in conditions impaired activity delta 6-desaturase. Twenty-nine healthy elderly people (mean age 68.6 years), received a daily dose 360 720 mg GLA for 2 months, using Borage gelatine capsules (Quintesal 180, manufacturer Galderma Laboratorium GmbH, Freiburg, Germany). The effects derived ingested on barrier function were assessed by measurement transepidermal water loss (TEWL). consumption induced statistically significant improvement cutaneous people, as reflected mean decrease 10.8% loss. Thirty-four percent noted itch before and 0% afterwards. Dry was claimed be reduced 42 14%, but no alteration hydration measured. FA-composition erythrocyte membrane phospholipids demonstrated an increase (+70%) DHGLA (+18%) reduction saturated monounsaturated FA. There nervonic AA content, DHGLA/AA ratio (+23%). Thus, lead metabolism improved function.
