CHILI) DEVELOPMENT, 1985, 56, 643-653. Third-grade children were taught efficient use of self-monitoring strategy preparing recall. 1 group was trained on both free serial recall, others only the 2 tasks. Control subjects received equivalent practice with tasks, but no instructions concerning study techniques. On posttest maintenance generalization given week after training, groups used greater extent than controls tasks 3 Trained showed perfonnance superior that recall nonsignificant trend same direction Groups whose training had included experience task more self-testing did A follow-up testing some 9 months revealed high amounts selftesting increased among control groups.
