Genetic vs. morphological differentiation of Old World buzzards (genus Buteo, Accipitridae). — Zoologica Scripta, 33, 197–211. Here, a comprehensive phylogenetic investigation the buteo–vulpinus complex and related taxa using genetic markers is presented. The morphometric analysis proved useful to discriminate taxa. Nevertheless, relationships cannot be resolved with these characters. Sequence comparisons between control region pseudo-control revealed that latter most variable section mitochondrial genome. Consequently it was used as marker sequence. In analysis, almost no sequence variability found among comprising well Buteo rufinus oreophilus, suggesting gene flow and/or incomplete lineage sorting. Thus, rapid in adaptation different environments not accompanied by genomes contrast, East Palearctic are differentiated genetically. ‘superspecies’ concept taxonomic consequences our results discussed.
