Predicting potential distribution of the jaguar (Panthera onca) in Mexico: Identification of priority areas for conservation

摘要: Aim  The jaguar, Panthera onca, is a species of global conservation concern. In Mexico, the northernmost part its distribution range, status, particularly critical, while potential and actual poorly known. We propose an ensemble model (EM) for jaguar in Mexico identify priority areas conservation. Location  Mexico. Methods  generated our EM based on three presence-only methods (Ecological Niche Factor Analysis, Mahalanobis distance, Maxent) considering environmental, biological anthropogenic factors. used this to evaluate efficacy existing Mexican protected (PAs), adequacy units (JCUs) new that should be considered management Mexico. Results  Our results outline 16% (c. 312,000 km2) can as suitable presence jaguar. Furthermore, 13% are included PAs 14% JCUs (Sanderson et al., 2002).
