Tertiary students’ perceptions of hospitality careers in Vietnam

摘要: Hospitality personnel are often prepared through vocational education and training (VET) higher (HE) providers, taking different emphases. In Vietnam’s hospitality workplaces, HE graduates compete with VET for the same basic operational positions, limited managerial positions available. Given educational pathways taken similar career opportunities in current labour market, it is important to understand students’ views of workplaces as their future environment. The aim this study identify examine underlying factors that determine tertiary overall perceptions Vietnamese context. A quantitative utilising an online survey was conducted 234 students from institutes colleges South Vietnam. Chi squared statistics logistic regression were performed assess significant level differences. analyses show marked differences between participants on several aspects including pay/promotion opportunities, management, commitment industry. appeared less positive, indicated a lower results have implications various stakeholder groups. Students’ negative perceptions, associated internship experiences currently appear result detrimental consequences students, many not planning remaining sector.
