Displacement distribution and atomic jump direction in diffusion of Ir atoms on the Ir(001) surface.

摘要: On the Ir{001} surface an Ir adatom is surprisingly found to jump along 〈001〉 direction instead of smoother closely packed 〈110〉 atomic channel substrate, probably by exchange mechanism. The sites visited one diffusing therefore form a c(2\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}2) net substrate lattice. displacement distributions derived are consistent with those expected from discrete random walk length nearest-neighbor distance net.
