摘要: Background Semmelweis reflex is a human behavioral tendency to stick preexisting beliefs and reject fresh ideas that contradict them (despite adequate evidence). We aim familiarize the readers with term not only has significant historical background but also grave clinical implications. Methods A keyword search for “Semmelweis reflex,” “Belief perseverance,” “handwashing,” “Idea rejection” was conducted using PubMed Central, MEDLINE, Google SCHOLAR. Literature published in paper-based journals books searched. All manuscripts pertaining these keywords were thoroughly analyzed this review.
