Reaching the rural poor through rural producer organizations? A study of agricultural marketing cooperatives in Ethiopia

摘要: Abstract This paper examines the notion of inclusiveness in rural producer organizations (RPOs) and extent to which such RPOs can be used reach poor sub-Saharan Africa. Using farmer cooperatives Ethiopia as a case point, role supporting smallholder commercialization, principles an inclusive, bottom-up approach relate their marketing performance. Based on combination nationally-representative household- cooperative-level survey data, we find that poorer farmers tend not participate these although they may indirectly benefit from them. When do participate, are often excluded decision-making processes. Finally, investigate relationship between performance uncover evidence significant tradeoffs
