摘要: A skeletal ossification index (SOI) was devised to standardize the radiographic evaluation of carpal and tarsal regions newborn foals (less than two weeks age). This based on views a carpus tarsus. Four grades cuboidal bone were discerned: Grade 1 had some bones with no ossification; 2 assigned when all evidence in 3 small round; 4 shaped like adult counterparts. Radiographs taken 24 neonatal various gestational ages (range, 297–374 days). The relationships between SOI measures foal developmental maturity, gestationai age body weight, assessed. There relationship sex SOI, but there (one-tailed Spearman's rank correlation coefficient, r = 0.748) weight (r 0.77) for foals. For ten less 320 days, significant 0.953), not 0.605). degree that are born prematurely (< days gestation) or “small-for-gestational age” at birth may be incomplete, we suggest radiographs these should made assess high risk groups.
