摘要: Abstract Objective To screen the antimicrobial and antihyperglycemic activities of Musa paradisiaca ( M. ) flowers. Methods The EtOH EtOH: water (1:1) extracts flowers were screened for antibacterial antifungal activity against standard strains Bacillus subtilis B. ), cereus Escherichia coli E. Klebsiella pneumoniae K. Proteus mirabilis P. Pseudomonas aeruginosa Streptococcus S. Staphylococcus aureus Salmonella typhimurium Candida albicans C. Cryptococcus albidus amikacin clotrimazole respectively. Both also administered to normal alloxan induced diabetic rats. blood glucose levels measured daily after oral administration at doses 100, 250 500 mg/(kg.d). Result: exhibited with minimum inhibitory concentrations ranging from 5.62–25.81 7.60–31.50 μg/mL reversed permanent hyperglycemia within a week in extract (250 mg/kg) was found be 7.69% more potent hypoglycemic effect than drug, glibenclamide 0.2 mg/kg b.w., Conclusion alcoholic showed moderate activities.
