摘要: Purpose Climate change and variability are both a developmental an environmental issue. Adaptation to climate has gained prominent place on global local policy agendas, evolving from mainly risks impacts vulnerability assessments adaptation action, imposing new defies higher education (HE). The purpose of this paper is introduce the Climate Vulnerability, Impact, (VIA) Network (CliVIA-Net), South American university-based coalition aimed at achieving science for/of adaptation. Design/methodology/approach CliVIA-Net collaborative effort by academic groups across spectrum natural, social health sciences focused improving VIA education, research practice. In consonance with international literature practices, network shifted discipline-oriented approach interdisciplinary Earth System Science (ESS)-oriented one. It seeks advance fundamental understanding participatory practice-oriented develop problem orientation question/solving answering methodology. A set cases studies illustrates how CliVIA-Net faces sustainability challenges in twenty-first century. Findings Focusing graduate practice threats which already threatening environment, population’s well-being sustainability, allows for co-production knowledge solutions, as well stakeholders’ buy-in commitment. Originality/value CliVIA-Net draws upon results approaches partnership stakeholders decision-makers outcomes, e.g. indicators scenario planning.
