摘要: Importance Neurotrophic keratitis (NK) represents a sight-threatening complication after trigeminal impairment. To our knowledge, the duration for which injury may affect corneal structures and function has not been investigated previously. Objective describe long-term clinical, morphological, functional outcomes of NK neurosurgical damage. Design, Setting, Participants Observational case series performed at ocular surface diseases referral center in 2010. Eight consecutive patients with monolateral from 1 to 19 years neurosurgery 20 age- sex-matched healthy participants were included. Main Outcomes Measures Complete eye examination, tear film tests, staining, Cochet-Bonnet esthesiometry performed. The number density nerves, hyperreflective keratocytes, epithelial, endothelial, keratocyte cell densities evaluated by vivo slit scanning confocal microscopy. Clinical morphological data compared contralateral unaffected eyes control participants. Results All showed superficial punctate dry eye. Decreased sensitivity was observed all affected (mean [SD], 2.0 [1.9] mm vs 5.8 [0.3] eyes; P = .01) related decreased subbasal nerve length ( = .04; R = 0.895). Corneal epithelial endothelial significantly keratocytes increased A longer associated lower = .046; = −0.715). Conclusions Relevance morphology impaired even damage, suggesting that assessment as well microscopy examination should be
