摘要: PURPOSE Retinopathy is the major cause of ocular morbidity in patients with diabetes mellitus. Chronic hyperglycemia spares no organ and can affect morphology function various corneal layers, compromising its transparency. This study was conducted to associate status endothelium mellitus (DM) identify risk factors compromised endothelium. METHODS A total 220 eyes randomly selected (110 diabetic 110 nondiabetic) were subjected detailed slitlamp fundus evaluation. Corneal endothelial evaluated using Nidek Confoscan 2. Cell density, percentage polymegathism, pleomorphism calculated. The findings compared those without disease. outcome correlated retinopathy (DR). effects hypertension, hyperlipidemia, age, gender, type, duration, glycemic control, grades DR also considered. RESULTS mean cell density -175 cells/mm2 (95% CI -317 -33 cells/mm2) less patients. number cells polymegathism significantly greater among There nondiabetic Polymegathism seems be positively associated DM type II. lower than DR. CONCLUSIONS compromised. Evaluation should part protocol for eye care
